ŠKODA JS concluded an agreement on further deliveries for Ukrainian nuclear power plants

19. 11. 2019

Today, ŠKODA JS a.s. signed an agreement with the Ukrainian NAEK Energoatom on the basic commercial terms and conditions of the contract for the supply of two sets of drives, including accessories, for units 1 and 2 of the Rovno nuclear power plant with VVER 440 reactor.

The scope of supply includes a total of 76 PRO-M control rod drives with accessories, they are the executive element of the reactor control system. The drives ensure linear movement of fuel cassettes, thereby they regulate power and ensure emergency reactor protection. The upgraded PRO-M drive improves operating characteristics and reduces the likelihood of failure of a nuclear power plant unit. The total scope of supply, including accessories, is worth almost EUR 27 million.

This new type is currently supplied to all four units of Dukovany NPP, to four units of the Slovak Mochovce NPP (two units in operation and two in construction), as well as to four units of Paks NPP in Hungary. In total, ŠKODA JS has supplied more than 1,200 sets of drives to domestic and foreign power plants, these drives are, of course, continuously upgraded.

“After the completion of the first two units of the Temelín NPP, ŠKODA JS has been able to maintain not only its capacities, but also the know-how in the nuclear power industry and a team of experts by continuous development of production, engineering and service. We stand firmly on these three pillars and as a result we can expect this year to be the twentieth in a row, which will end with positive economic results,” says Vladimír Poklop, General Director and Chairman of the Board of ŠKODA JS. “We believe that Czech companies will soon have an opportunity on the domestic market to build new nuclear sources. In the meantime, we have focused on finding opportunities especially in Central and Eastern Europe, exports account for more than two-thirds of our turnover today. We have been operating on the Ukrainian market for a long time, we highly appreciate the cooperation with NAEK Energoatom and we see its future perspective, which is confirmed by the agreement signed today.”

ŠKODA JS is based on a skilled and educated team of nearly 1,100 employees, it follows the latest developments in the industry and actively participates in it. The company has been permanently renewing its facilities and equipment, in 2018 ŠKODA JS spent CZK 145 million on the acquisition, modernization and repair of fixed assets.
