ŠKODA JS a.s. reported an operating profit of almost CZK 250 million on total sales of CZK 3.3 billion in 2023.  These are audited financial results (according to Czech accounting standards). Europe's leading equipment producer for the nuclear power industry returned to the black after two previous loss-making years due to the Covid pandemic and the war in Ukraine. Last year's 12 months represented ŠKODA JS's first full year of business under the ČEZ Group's ownership structure (of which it has been a part since November 2022).

"Especially after an extremely challenging year in 2022, we are particularly pleased to have returned to profitable operations, with sales up by 12 percent year-on-year," says František Krček, Chairman and CEO of ŠKODA JS a.s., commenting on other parameters of last year's results.

Exports accounted for roughly a third of sales and were mainly directed to Slovakia. The Plzeň-based company is one of the major suppliers involved in the recent third unit Mochovce completion of the Mochovce NPP and is currently working on commissioning of the fourth unit. The company has also supplied Western Europe (UK and France) and Hungary. Of the three main pillars of ŠKODA JS's business, the service sector accounted for 43 percent of sales, while investment engineering and production accounted for 28 percent each. "The volume of new orders as of 31 December 2023 showed a value of over CZK 3.8 billion, which is 5 percent more than in the previous year," added Krček.

The company's performance last year was positively affected, among other things, by the renewed cooperation with Ukrainian customer NAEK Energoatom. As soon as the security situation allows, ŠKODA JS intends to return fully to the Ukrainian market and complete the business cases that have been split up there, as well as to participate in new projects that have already been announced, such as the construction of new units at the Chmelnyckyj NPP. In the Czech Republic, as the leading domestic company in the industry, the company has relevant ambitions to cooperate in a supply consortium with the winner of tender for the construction of new nuclear unit(s).
