ŠKODA JS will supply new parts for Dukovany reactor operation for almost 1 billion CZK

5. 3. 2024

Engineering company ŠKODA JS a.s., one of Europe's leading companies in the nuclear power industry, will supply new sets of control rod drives for Dukovany nuclear power plant between 2025 and 2028. These are the elements of the reactor's upper unit that ensure its stable power output or enable its regulation.

The company based in Pilsen has already concluded a contract worth close to CZK 1 billion following its winning of a public tender. The complete delivery, including the option, covers a total of 98 of these engineering assemblies. These are several meters long, made of stainless steel, produced with minimal tolerances and requiring exceptional reliability. This is not the first delivery from the Pilsen-based company. ŠKODA JS has already delivered 116 pieces of this type of equipment to Dukovany in the past.

"The control element drives for the control and management system of the VVER 440 reactor are one of our important series productions. Besides Dukovany, we also supply them to several Ukrainian power plants. Currently, a set of them is ready for shipment to the Rovno nuclear power plant," stated František Krček, the Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of ŠKODA JS a.s.

"The delivery of the new drives for Dukovany NPP is divided into six separate stages starting with the year 2025. It is another important reference for us and, given that the Dukovany plant is expected to operate for at least 60 years, it is likely to continue in the event of our success in the tender," added the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of ŠKODA JS a.s. Petr Altschul.
