Tender for the completion of the new Dukovany NPP units - statement by ŠKODA JS CEO František Krček

18. 7. 2024

“ŠKODA JS is one of the Europe’s leading manufacturers of equipment for the nuclear power industry. It is currently involved in the construction of the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant in the UK, is completing Unit 4 at the Mochovce nuclear power plant in Slovakia, and is supplying equipment or providing services at a number of other nuclear power plants in Europe and elsewhere. Like other Czech companies focused on this industry, the company expects to involve its production, engineering and service capacities as widely as possible in the domestic tender. It is essential for strengthening the competitiveness of the Czech industry.

We have been in regular contact with both bidders for this contract - EDF and KHNP - and had discussions with them before the announcement of the tender results on a wide range of supplies. We have prepared tenders for them for various parts relating to the supply of specific equipment. We also have ambitions in the area of assembly and commissioning of sub-operating sets or coordination of assembly, design, etc. In short, we want to play the same dignified role as, for example, in the ongoing completion of the Mochovce NPP. As the bids mentioned have been part of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), we cannot be more specific at this time. With the selected preferred bidder - Korean KHNP, we will now discuss the specific scope of our deliveries and activities, including the financial level.

We would also like to ensure that ŠKODA JS's role can be extended in the future to include its know-how related to the future maintenance of the new units, as we have many years of experience and strong references in this area (both Czech NPPs) and in the supply of spare parts (in addition to the Czech ones, we also have the Slovak Mochovce and Jaslovské Bohunice, the Hungarian Paks, the Ukrainian NPPs, etc.). A lot of experience useful for future servicing can be gained during the construction of the new unit(s). Therefore, the scope and importance of the supplies that Czech companies will receive will be important not only for ŠKODA JS but also for the entire Czech industry.”
